TDP acts swiftly in drug case involving MP Putta Mahesh
A late-night anti-narcotics raid by the Telangana Police’s Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) at a farmhouse in Moinabad, Hyderabad, led to the detention of several individuals attending a private gathering, including Eluru MP Putta Mahesh. Authorities said preliminary tests conducted after the raid showed that multiple attendees had allegedly consumed narcotic substances.

Police had acted on specific intelligence about a suspected drug party at a farmhouse owned by a former legislator. During the operation, a small quantity of suspected narcotics was seized and those present were subjected to medical tests as part of the investigation. Subsequent blood tests reportedly indicated drug consumption by several individuals, including the MP, while the probe into the source of the narcotics is ongoing.

In response, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu moved quickly to distance the party from the controversy and uphold its stated zero-tolerance stance on drugs. The party leadership directed MP Putta Mahesh to stay away from party activities and ordered that formal notices be issued seeking an explanation regarding the incident.

The Chief Minister also instructed State TDP President Palla Srinivas to submit a detailed report on the matter. Making the party’s position clear, Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that no individual—regardless of position—will be spared if involved in drug-related activities, and that the party will not allow the mistakes of individuals to tarnish its reputation.

By immediately seeking explanations and initiating internal disciplinary processes, the leadership has sought to send a strong message that drug-related misconduct will not be tolerated within the party or government. Naidu has also tried to deflate Opposition YSRCP charge that alleged involvement of TDP MP raises questions over Naidu government's seriousness to fight drugs.
