Tatkal marriage registration set to be 90% cheaper in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Marriage registration is all set to become an inexpensive affair in the national capital with the AAP government proposing to bring down the fee of "tatkal service" for marriage certificates by 90 per cent.

As per existing fee structure, one has to shell out Rs 10,000 to get marriage registration certificate within 24 hours, using tatkal service.

Government has now proposed to reduce fee of tatal service from the existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 1000.

Last year in April, Revenue Department of the Delhi government had introduced 'tatal service' for registering marriage on the lines of passports and rail tickets.

This service was introduced to provide the papers on priority basis to those who seek them urgently.

"We have proposed to reduce the fee of tatkal service from the existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,000. The move will also encourage people to register their nuptials with government," a senior government official told PTI.

The official also said that the move also aims to curb corruption due to inexpensive fee of such service besides boosting government's revenue.

A proposal has been forwarded to the finance department, which is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, for its consideration.

Delhi government had made mandatory the registration of marriage within 60 days of tying the nuptial knot.

The proposal also favours to standardise fee structure of normal service for the authorisation of marriage.

"We are also reviewing the fee of normal service for the same which is very less. Government wants to standardise fee structure of such service," the official added.

According to rules, any marriage solemnised in Delhi between a man having completed 21 years and a woman of at least 18 years of age on the date of solemnisation of the marriage, with at least one of them being an Indian citizen, has to be compulsorily registered.
