Tata Docomo to turn CP into a WiFi Hotspot

Tata Docomo is soon going to turn all of Connaught Place in Delhi into a WiFi Hotspot. With promised seamless coverage of the entire 4km area, including inner and outer circles, visitors (and more importantly, tourists) in the area will be able to enjoy instant access to information on any smart device they own.

"In the next few years, we should see a large number of public Wi-Fi hotspots coming up in the country. Our Wi-Fi service is operator and device agnostic and the service compliments our overall company data strategy which is to provide high speed, uninterrupted internet services to the end users." Challenges > Providing consistent coverage in a large, open area. >Identifying where internet traffic (number of users) will be higher. >Providing connectivity on different kinds of devices.

Pitfalls > Only a correct, active cellphone number will receive the code. > Bandwidth will be shared, so speeds will likely be low at peak times. > One cellphone number equals one connection – either on phone, laptop or tablet, not all.
