NEW DELHI: Former editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal , sought interim bail from the Supreme Court but the apex court ruled it would only hear his plea after it had heard out the state of Goa and the complainant, a journalist from the magazine, who has accused him of sexual assault.

Tejpal's lawyer, Harish Salve, allayed fears that Tejpal would interfere with the case by offering to stay in Goa while on bail. Salve said that charges were yet to be framed in the case and hence his client sought bail.

Salve also sought to question key evidence in the case, CCTV tapes of the hotel, saying they did not bear out what was being argued in the case. "We have sought video footage of the CCTV of the hotel."

The bench led by outgoing Chief Justice of India, P Sathasivam issued notices to Goa and the complainant. The notices have to be replied to in four weeks.
