GUWAHATI: Gaurav Gogoi son of Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi has joined the congress party. There are speculations that he will contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency.

Gaurav, who is a Post graduate in public administration from New York University, is camping in Assam since last one year. He actively participated in the election rallies in 2011 assembly polls.

After elections, Gaurav was engaged in social work through his NGO. On Sunday he took the formal membership of the congress party.

Tarun Gogoi said that he has been asking him to join politics. However Gaurav was reluctant." My son use to tell me that he is keen on doing social service. I use to argue being in politics he can do social service."

The chief minister said that as a father he is happy that Gaurav has joined congress party. The chief minister however refrained from commenting as to if Gaurav will contest Lok Sabha polls or not.
