GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has cautioned his state against beef politics and stated that an attempt has been made to import the row by some fringe groups of the BJP.

"The state is maintaining a close vigil over the situation and timely intervention of the Government machinery prevented the situation from snowballing into chaos," Gogoi said.

Gogoi appealed to the people of the state not to fall for communal forces. “Assam is a land known for communal amity and secular harmony. I urge everybody to maintain the social fabric of the state, which is based on the teachings of Sankardev, Madhavdev and Ajan Fakir."
