GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said he has nothing against the Hindi-speaking BJP leaders, but is against the Hindigiri of central BJP leaders. After complaining to President Pranab Mukerjee, Gogoi said he will take up Assam Governor PB Acharya’s recent remark with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Acharya had said that “Hindustan is for Hindus”, and “Muslims can go anywhere, they can go to Pakistan”.

The Assam Congress has set a onemonth deadline for the Centre to recall the Governor, or else they will protest outside the Raj Bhavan every day, but the BJP has ruled out such a possibility.

Gogoi further said the state will soon draft a legislation which will prescribe minimum education qualifications for members of the university board and senate.

Congress had alleged that Acharya, being a chancellor, has appointed persons with RSS background and poor qualification to the universities in the state. Meanwhile, BJP leaders had termed Gogoi’s Hindi speaking jibe as a matter of intolerance.
