GUWAHATI: What is expected to trigger political slug fest, former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday claimed that his NSG cover is withdrawn by the Centre.

Gogoi claimed that he has received a letter informing him that his NSG cover is withdrawn. Assam police however stated that they are not aware of the development.

Gogoi said, “As I am vocal in criticizing the policies of NDA government. The government has withdrawn the NSG cover.”

Congress said that this is political conspiracy. Leader of the Opposition in Assam assembly Debabrata Saikia said that during his tenure as chief minister Gogoi had to take several decisions against militants and there is threat against him. " This is political conspiracy for Gogoi is vocal against the policies of NDA government."

The letter however do not mention if the z-plus level of security is withdrawn.

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay told ET, “I have not received any paper in this regard. I have asked the Additional Director General of Assam police (Special branch), Pallab Bhattacharya to look into it for security issues are dealt by him.”

Presently Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal is covered under z plus security and his security is provided by state police commandos.
