GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi slammed the Narendra Modi government for ignoring Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi at the India-Africa Forum Summit on October 29 while the African leaders heaped praise on the two late prime ministers.

Gogoi said a day later that while the African leaders sang paeans to Nehru and Indira Gandhi by fondly remembering their contributions in building India’s relations with Africa in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the latter "insulted" the legacy of Nehru and Gandhi through some recent "outrageous actions".

"The two great visionary leaders created the base of strong solidarity between African member states and India on which the Modi government is treading upon today. Instead of giving them the recognition they so richly deserve, it chooses to ignore them through some recent outrageous acts. Prime Minister Modi’s actions in belittling the contributions of the two great leaders have only helped to demean his so-called stature of a visionary leader before the rest of the world," said Gogoi.
