GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday sought the removal of the state’s acting governor PB Acharya, alleging that the latter has dishonoured the constitutional pledge.

“The governor has stated that Hindustan is for Hindus and this has lowered the prestige of the office of the governor and has threatened that integrity of the country,” Gogoi said in a statement while demanding a new governor for the state.

Alleging that Acharya is working like an ‘RSS pracharak’, Gogoi said, “Under this governor unity and development of Assam will hampered.”

Acharya has denied that he has never said Hindustan is for Hindus, saying he had only said that those Hindus who are persecuted for religious reason in Bangladesh have the right to come to India and it is our duty to receive them.

Criticizing Acharya, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said, “No other governor in the country has courted so much controversy like Acharya. Raj Bhavan has become the den of RSS.”
