New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday batted for the former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, claiming that her name cropping up in the Agusta Westland scam was a government ‘conspiracy’ to target the opposition.

Pawar said that the investigating agencies were being used to target the opposition leaders like Sonia Gandhi. “They are attacking the opposition through such campaigns like Christian Michel, it is a conspiracy, this is like emergency, all the parties have to come together to tackle this. The Centre is using all its might after its loss in the three states and you can see the government using the agencies for it,”said Pawar while speaking to reporters at Ahmednagar.

The NCP chief said the claims of the Enforcement Directorate that has told the court about Michel’s claim implicating the former Congress president could not be taken at face value. “You don’t know what Christian Michel has told the ED and neither do I.”
