Chennai reported fewer than 1,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported 87 deaths due to the disease on Tuesday, pushing the death toll above 8,000.

The death toll stood at 8,012 in the State.

Tamil Nadu reported 5,684 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the total number in the state to 474,940.


The count has consistently been under the 6,000-mark for many days now, providing some relief to the authorities after the easing of the state-wide lockdown on August 31.

Chennai reported fewer than 1,000 cases for the sixth consecutive day.

Tamil Nadu’s capital has been the worst affected district in the state since March, with the formation of several Covid-19 clusters. On Tuesday, 988 people tested positive in the city.

As many as 6,599 people recovered from the infection on Tuesday, pushing the total recoveries to 416,715. During the day, the state reported 81,066 tests.
