Tamil Nadu says no to Guru Utsav, will stick to Teachers' Day
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government would stick to " Teachers' Day" tag, avoiding reference of " Guru Utsav" anywhere in the celebrations, a senior state government official said.

Tamil Nadu government's education department is going ahead with organizing Teachers' Day celebrations as it used to do in the previous years.

It will honour 377 teachers with the Best Teachers Award this year.

"This year, 377 teachers will be conferred Nallasiriyar Awards (Best Teachers' Award) and the function will be held at Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School and we will stick to Teachers Day tag and avoid using new references," a senior state government official.

Asked if the government would make arrangements to show interaction of Prime Minister Modi with children in state-run schools, the official said, there "are no plans as of now," and added that private schools, be it matriculation or CBSE were free to show the interaction.

"We have identified Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Thiruvannamalai to have a direct interaction with the Prime Minister through video conferencing," Deputy Commissioner, Chennai Region, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, S M Saleem said. The students' interaction will be facilitated by the District NIC Centre, he said.
