Tamil Nadu reports marginal drop in cases

As many as 52,926 have been discharged from the hospitals after fully recovering from the virus. The recoveries also include 2852 new recoveries on Wednesday alone.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu saw a marginal drop in cases on Wednesday with 3882 patients testing positive for Covid-19, total count to 94,049. On Tuesday, the State recorded 3943 cases.

The death toll too rose to 1264 after 63 more people succumbed to the infection on Wednesday.

As many as 52,926 have been discharged from the hospitals after fully recovering from the virus. The recoveries also include 2852 new recoveries on Wednesday alone.


According to the state government, a total of 30,571 persons were tested on Wednesday.

Chennai continues to be the worst affected district in the State with 60,533 cases in all and 2182 of which were on Wednesday. The district has seen 929 deaths so far.

On Wednesday, Madurai reported 297 cases and Chengalpet reported 226 cases.

Chennai and neighbouring districts like Chengelpet, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram have been under an intense 12-day lockdown from June 19. This lockdown has been extended till July 5 after which there will be easing of restrictions, much like what was done during the Unlock 1.0 period. However, the general state-wide lockdown is on till July 31.
