Tamil Nadu reports lowest single-day Covid-19 deaths in weeks

Chennai: Tamil Nadu's death toll went down to 64 on Thursday, which is the lowest it has been in weeks. With this, the death toll in the state touched 8154, according to the State media bulletin. The state also reported 5,528 Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total number to 486,052. The positivity count has consistently been below the 6,000-mark for over a week now, providing some relief to authorities after the easing of a state-wide lockdown on August 31.

Chennai reported fewer than 1,000 cases for a eighth consecutive day. Tamil Nadu’s capital has been the worst affected district in the state since March, with the formation of several Covid-19 clusters. On Thursday, 991 people tested positive in the city. As many as 6,185 people recovered from the infection, and the total recoveries now stand at 429,416. The state reported 83,411 tests on Thursday.
