Tamil Nadu reports highest ever spike in deaths with 109 people succumbing to Covid-19

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported the highest ever spike in deaths with 109 people succumbing to the infection on Monday.

This takes the total tally of deaths in the State to 4,241, the state media bulletin confirmed.

The number of positive cases, however, continued to be under 6,000 cases as cases touched 5609 in the State.


This comes as a slight relief as the State had been reporting nearly 7,000 cases for most days last week.

State capital Chennai remained steady with 1021 people testing positive for the infection.

Other districts, however, continued to report increases.

Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Theni, Thiruvallur, Virudhunagar reported over 300 cases while Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Thiruvannamalai, Tuticorin had over 200 cases.

With this, the total number of cases in the state has now touched 263,222, according to the media bulletin.

There was a slight dip in testing on Monday with 56,278 people being tested for the novel Coronavirus.

Further, 5800 patients were discharged, taking the count of recoveries to over 2 lakh.

The number of recoveries now stand at 202283.
