Tamil Nadu reports another day of new COVID-19 cases below the 6,000 mark; adds 118 deaths

The death toll, however, remained high with 118 people succumbing to the infection on Tuesday, which is not much lower than the highest ever single day spike in deaths which came on Sunday with 119 people dying of the virus.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported a further decline in the number of COVID-19 cases on Tuesday with 5,834 people testing positive for the infection.

On Monday, 5,914 people were reported Covid-19 positive in the State, the government media bulletin confirmed.

This takes the total count to 3,08,649 in the State.


Tamil Nadu, which is among the worst affected states in the country has managed to remain under the 6,000 cases mark for a few days, which has come as a huge relief as the number of cases were rapidly increasing earlier with the formation of several clusters.

The death toll, however, remained high with 118 people succumbing to the infection on Tuesday, which is not much lower than the highest ever single day spike in deaths which came on Sunday with 119 people dying of the virus.

The total number of Covid related fatalities in the state now stands at 5159, according to the bulletin.

Chennai continued to report cases under 1,000 as 986 people tested positive for the infection on Tuesday as opposed to 976 people on Monday.

Testing remained high with 65,490 people being tested on Tuesday. On Sunday, the state hit a new milestone with 68,179 being tested for COVID-19.

The number of recoveries stood at 6,005 on Monday, taking the total count of recoveries to 2,50,680.
