Tamil Nadu reports a further decline in cases with 5344 people testing positive

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported a further decline in cases with 5344 people testing positive on Monday as opposed to 5516 on Sunday.

This takes the total tally of cases to 5,47,337 the State media bulletin confirmed.

The number of deaths too remained steady for the second day with 60 people succumbing to the infection.


The death toll in the state touched 8871, according to the State media bulletin.

The positivity count has consistently been below the 6,000-mark for some time now, providing some relief to authorities after the easing of a state-wide lockdown on August 31.

Chennai reported fewer than 1,000 cases again with 982 people testing positive on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu’s capital has been the worst affected district in the state since March, with the formation of several Covid-19 clusters.

As many as 5492 people recovered from the infection, and the total recoveries now stand at 491,971.

The state reported a decline in testing, however with 78841 tests on Monday.
