Tamil Nadu reports 817 coronavirus cases, highest single-day spike so far
Tamil Nadu reported the highest ever spike in Covid-19 positive cases on Wednesday with 817 people testing positive. The state also reported six more deaths.
The state also reported six more Covid-19 deaths on Wednesday pushing the death toll to 133. Further, the government said 567 patients were discharged during the day making the total recoveries in the state rise to 9909.
Of the 817 cases in the state, Chennai accounted for 558 cases. The State capital is the worst affected district. Chennai has had 12,203 cases in all. However, the media bulletin confirmed that there were no active cases in Coimbatore, Namakkal and Tiruppur.
Further, from among the fresh cases of coronavirus infection, 139 were passengers who came in from other states. Of them, 138 patients were from Maharashtra and one was from Kerala.
A total of 1122 children under the age of 12 have been affected in thesState so far.
The state has tested 4,23,018 persons tested so far. The State also resumed flight operations from Monday. While the number of arrivals at the Chennai airport has been restricted, there has been no cap on the number of departures..
