The death toll in the State stands at 61 with eight more deaths reported on Tuesday, the highest ever single day spike.
The State has 6,520 active cases and has witnessed 8,718 cases in all.
Four passengers who had returned from other countries under the Vande Bharat mission tested positive for Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
Chennai accounted for 510 cases on Tuesday alone. The city has had 4882 cases of the infection so far. However, according to the media bulletin, three districts - Erode, Sivagangai and Tiruppur - have zero active cases.
So far, 487 children below the age of 12 have tested positive in the state.
The government said 83 patients discharged were discharged on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in Tamil Nadu to 2134.
So far, 2,66,687 samples and 2,55,584 people have been tested. As many as 11,788 samples were tested on Tuesday alone.
