Tamil Nadu ratifies constitution amendment bill
CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Assembly today ratified "The National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014" to provide for setting up National Judicial Appointments Commission for appointment of judges.

The House adopted a resolution moved by Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on the concluding day of the winter session and approved it.

MMK (Manithaneya Makkal Katchi) opposed the Bill saying states had no say in it and Puthiya Tamizhagam welcomed it but wanted reservation system to be followed during the selection process of judges.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha had passed the landmark bill to scrap the collegium system of appointing Supreme Court and High Court judges and replace it with the National Judicial Appointments Commission.
