Tamil Nadu govt ministers, DMK leaders visit Karunanidhi after health decline

CHENNAI: Members of the public have started to gather around the residence of former chief minister and Dravidian leader M Karunanidhi after reports of steady deterioration in his health began doing the rounds.

The hospital in-charge of his health Kauvery Hospital had said on Thursday evening that there has been a "slight decline" in the health of Karunanidhi.

He had underwent a proceedure a few days back to implant a fresh pipe to his tracheostomy apparatus, an aid to enable the patient breathe. Karunanidhi had been on the assistance of tracheostomy since December 2016 when he had been admitted in Kauvery hospital after complaints of breathing.


On Thursday evening, the police put in place barricades to regulate vehicular traffic around the house. The press corps including photographers were advised to not take pictures.

DMK working president MK Stalin had been visiting his father regularly. On Thursday evening, former minister andlongtime DMK politician TR Baalu came visiting.

Late on Thursday, Tamil Nadu government ministers O Panneerselvam, SP Velumani, Thangamani, and D Jayakumar made a visit.
