Tamil Nadu Governor calls for protecting IT assets
CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Friday expressed concern over reports of cyber attacks being funded by "certain nations and terrorist outfits," and called for protecting IT assets by giving priority to strengthen cyber security.

In his inaugural address at a conference titled 'Cyber Security - Prepare or Pay,' he said the awareness about cyber threats at the board level was still lacking which he said was a matter of concern.

"A more worrying aspect of these attacks is the report that some of the attacks are initiated and funded by certain nations and terrorists outfits. Such attacks getting funding and other support can paralyse a nation's financial and banking utilities, transportation and other essential services," he said.

The need to protect IT assets from such 'destructive forces' was imperative, he said adding the country's IT assets must be protected from them by giving priority to strengthen cyber security.

"As India consolidates its leadership in IT in the world, Indian citizens, political organizations, Public Sector and Government websites have been systematically targeted for Cyber Attacks for long. Cyber security incidents are increasing every minute," he said.
