TN government in association with IIT-Madras established a technology demonstration centre to work on reducing air pollution by industries.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government in association with Indian Institute of Technology-Madras today established a technology demonstration centre to work on reducing air pollution by industries.

A memorandum of understanding was today signed by officials of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and IIT-Madras in the presence of State Environment Minister M C Sampath to operationalise the centre, which will come up at a cost of Rs five crore, an official release here said.

Sampath had announced in the State Assembly that the Centre would be set up as it was becoming a challenge to regulate emissions produced by growing number of factories.

The Centre would take up new researches carried out by the approved institutions of Anna University and IIT Madras and that can be implemented by the industries regulating the emissions produced from them, it said.

A technical committee, headed by TNPCB Chairman, would be established to guide the Centre, it said.

Once the Centre becomes operational, emissions produced from factories, small and medium industries in particular, would considerably reduce, the release said.
