The AIADMK Government has disbursed Rs 2,465.10 crore and 2,196.92 kgs of gold to beneficiaries under different marriage assistance schemes in the last four years.

CHENNAI: The AIADMK Government has disbursed Rs 2,465.10 crore and 2,196.92 kgs of gold to beneficiaries under different marriage assistance schemes in the last four years.

In addition to exisisting schemes under which cash assistance is paid for marriages, Jayalalithaa in June 2011 launched another initiative under which four grams of gold would be given for making mangalsutra.

"In the last four years, 5.49 lakh people have benefitted and Rs 2,465.10 crore financial assistance, 2,196.92 kgs of gold coins had been given", an official release said today.

For the financial year 2015-16, government orders were issued in June 2015 allocating Rs 703.92 crore to provide gold coins to 1.47 lakh beneficiaries.

At a function held recently in the Secretariat, Jayalalithaa handed over financial assistance and gold coins to five women hailing from Chennai and Kancheepuram districts, marking this year's distribution, it said.
