CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Government has allocated Rs 1,080 crore for distribution of laptops this fiscal under the free laptop scheme, one of the flagship schemes of ruling AIADMK, school education Minister K C Veeramani said today.

Claiming that the scheme was a hit among school students, he said government had allotted Rs 3,642.79 crore for distribution of free laptops in the last four years.

"About 29.56 lakh students benefited from the scheme. For the current financial year, Rs 1,080 crore has been allotted", he said in the Assembly.

Government had allocated Rs 85,422.47 crore for school Education in the last four years, compared to Rs 39,642 crore alloted during the previous DMK regime.

He said the Government has allocated Rs 12,474.87 crore from the State's funds in the last four years for distribution of various schemes to students.
