Tamil Nadu fishermen's remand extended by Sri Lankan court

The judicial custody of nine Tamil Nadu fishermen, arrested by Sri Lankan Navy on October 9, was today extended till November 20 by a court in the island nation.

RAMESWARAM: The judicial custody of nine Tamil Nadu fishermen, arrested by Sri Lankan Navy on October 9, was today extended till November 20 by a court in the island nation.

Paruthithurai Judicial Magistrate Ganesh Raja passed the order when the fishermen from Nagapattinam district were produced before him on expiry of their remand, Tamil Nadu Coastal Fishermen's Association President P Sesuraj said here quoting information received by him.

The judicial custody of ten other fishermen, arrested along with them, was yesterday extended till November 19.

They were produced at a court in Killinochi and charged with deliberately colliding their vessel with a Sri Lankan Naval patrol boat and damaging it.
