Tamil Nadu extends lockdown till Jan 31 but announces a number of relaxations

The state government has already banned New Year celebrations in the state in all beaches on Thursday and Friday.
The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday extended the coronavirus lockdown restrictions in the state till January 31. However, a number of relaxations too were announced.

Indoor events can be held with 50% of total seating capacity or with not more than 200 people from Jan 1.

Film and serial shooting can take place without any restriction on number of crew members from Jan 1.


All religious places of worship can be kept open as per normal timings and following SOPs.

E-registration system to continue for people travelling to TN from other states except Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

On the last day of Pongal (Jan 16) beaches will be shut for public to avoid people gathering in large numbers.

The state government has already banned New Year celebrations in the state in all beaches on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday's announcement comes at a time when Tamil Nadu's daily Covid-19 case count remained below the 1,000 mark for the second consecutive day on Wednesday and the tally stood at 8,17,077, while the death toll increased to 12,109 with 17 more fatalities.
