Tamil Nadu doubles MLAs' salaries to over Rs 1 lakh per month

Tamil Nadu also announced to increase the legislators Local Area Development Fund from Rs 2 crore to 2.5 crore. The decision may trigger similar demands of salary hikes in other states.

"Govt has decided to increase the salaries of Tamil Nadu MLAs from Rs 55,000 to Rs 1.05 lakh per month," CM Palaniswami announced in the assembly today.
NEW DELHI: Giving a nearly 100 per cent hike, Tamil Nadu today hiked the salaries of state MLAs from Rs 55,000 per month to Rs 105,000 per month.

"Government has decided to increase the salaries of Tamil Nadu MLAs from Rs 55,000 to Rs 1.05 lakh per month," Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced in the state Assembly today.

State government also announced an increase in MLAs Local Area Development Fund from Rs 2 crore to 2.5 crore.


The decision may trigger similar demands of salary hikes in other states.

Incidentally, Samajwadi Party's Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Agrawal also raised a similar demand to increase salaries of MPs in Rajya Sabha today on the lines of hikes given to government servants through Seventh Pay Commission.

"Our salary is lesser than our secretaries," Naresh Agrawal said in Rajya Sabha.
