Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa may be discharged any day: AIADMK

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's lung infection has been cured and she is breathing without respiratory support and may be discharged from hospital any day, her party AIADMK today said.

"Amma's (Jayalalithaa) health has improved excellently. She is (continuing) undergoing physiotherapy and she may be discharged any day," AIADMK spokesperson C Ponnaiyyan said.

Her lung infection and respiratory problem was totally cured and she "is breathing on her own" without respiratory support, he told reporters here.


Other health parameters of Jayalalithaa, who has been undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital since September 22, including heart (functioning) are "excellent", he said.

"She is having food by herself, she is sitting, she is able to talk freely... she is cheerful," Ponnaiyyan said.

He said she thanked the Almighty for her recovery and the people for their prayers.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital after she complained of fever and dehydration. Later, the hospital had said she was being treated for infection with respiratory support.

On November 13, the 68-year old leader said she has taken "rebirth" and that she was waiting to resume her duties after complete recovery.
