Tamil Nadu Cabinet Rejig: Palanivel Thiaga Rajan relieved of Finance portfolio, changes made to portfolios of five ministers

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday reshuffled his cabinet making changes to the portfolio of five ministers including Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR).

PTR was relieved of Finance portfolio and moved to information technology and digital services. Thangam Thennarasu was given finance, planning, human resources management portfolios in place of Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan.

There were speculations about the rejig post a controversy regarding the finance minister.


State Finance Minister PTR Thiagarajan had fallen out from the good books of the first family and the possibility of him being divested of his portfolio and shunted out to a relatively minor post had also been in the cards.

An audio tape allegedly of Thiagarajan was leaked in which he was heard saying that the Stalin's son Udayanidhi and the Chief Minister's son-in-law Sabareesan had minted money to the tune of thousands of crores.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai had lashed out against the Chief Minister and family on the alleged audio tape.

Thiagarajan has vehemently denied this and said that Artificial Intelligence was used to doctor his voice.
