Tamil Nadu announces Pongal bonus for government employees

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam today announced disbursement of bonus ahead of the harvest festival of Pongal to government employees, teachers and pensioners.

The payout would entail an expenditure of Rs 326.49 crore, an official release said here.

The bonus for government employees and teachers falling under groups 'C' and 'D' will be equivalent to remuneration for 30 days with an upper limit of Rs 3000, the release said.

For employees and teachers under groups 'A' and 'B' and for several other category staffers including Nutritious Noon Meal Programme workers, a special adhoc bonus of Rs 1,000 will be given.

Pensioners, family pensioners, former village administrative officers like 'Thalayari' and 'Karnam' will be given Rs 500 as "Pongal gift."
