NEW DELHI: IAS officers working as secretaries or at equivalent post need to take permission from their minister in-charge before applying for Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and Vigilance Commissioner (VC), the government said today.

"Serving IAS officers working as secretaries to the Government of India or holding posts equivalent to Secretary before applying for CVC and VC are required to send their applications to Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) complete in all respect through their respective ministries or departments, with the approval of the minister-in-charge of the ministry or department," it said.

Former IAS officers (who retired as secretaries to the Government or equivalent post) applying for CVC and VC are required to submit their applications to the DoPT, which is the cadre controlling authority, complete in all respect for consideration, the directive said.

Similarly, IAS officers presently working with state governments and had previously held the post of secretaries to the Government of India or equivalent post are also required to submit their applications complete in all respects to the DoPT, the government said. The directive was issued to clarify queries raised by some of the retired and working IAS officers interested in applying for the post of CVC and VC, a DoPT official said.

The DoPT has also written to Cabinet Secretary and all secretaries under central government seeking names of "persons of known impartiality and integrity" who could be considered for the post. The applications have been sought for the post of CVC and VC in the Central Vigilance Commission. CVC Pradeep Kumar and VC J M Garg will be completing their tenure on September 28 and September 7, respectively.
