Take corrective measures to ensure reports are placed before parliament in time: Hamid Ansari to Government
NEW DELHI: Taking umbrage over tabling of a report after the lapse of 14 years, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Hamid Ansari today asked the government to take "corrective action" to ensure that Standing Committee's reports are placed before Parliament in a timely manner.

The directive was issued after Congress member Madhusudan Mistry pointed out that there was a delay of 14 years in laying the report of the Commission of Scheduled Tribes.

"The report that the Tribal Affairs Minister laid on the table is for 2002-04. After 14 years, the report has been presented here. This House wants to know how the Commission of Scheduled Tribes is functioning," Mistry said.

He said he was not pointing at the Minister for the lapse but about the system that is in place.

To this, Ansari said "I think, it is a very desireable practice for reports of the Commission to be laid timely. This is not the first instance that such a matter has been brought to the notice of the House. I think it is in interest of everyone, for the government to take corrective action in this matter."
