Taj corridor: Mayawati gets reprieve

A Special Bench headed by Justice S B Sinha rejected the plea made by advocate Ashok Aggarwal, who had challenged the Governor's refusal to sanction her prosecution.

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday received a reprieve with the Supreme Court refusing to direct the state Governor for granting sanction to prosecute her in the Taj corridor case.

A Special Bench headed by Justice S B Sinha rejected the plea made by advocate Ashok Aggarwal, who had challenged the Governor's refusal to sanction her prosecution.

The Bench, which is at present hearing the environmental issue relating to the historical monument, said "It cannot hear Aggarwal's application as the matter was beyond its purview."
