Taiwan issues sea warning for Typhoon Sinlaku

Taiwan has issued a warning for ships traveling through its eastern waters as Typhoon Sinlaku skirts the island's coast.

TAIPEI: Taiwan has issued a warning for ships traveling through its eastern waters as Typhoon Sinlaku skirts the island's coast.

The Central Weather Bureau says that as of 11:30 a.m. (0330 GMT) Thursday, Sinlaku's center was located about 250 miles (400 kilometers) east of Taiwan's southern tip.

It says the typhoon is packing winds of 109 miles (173 kilometers ) per hour, and moving northeast at a speed of 4 mph (7 kph).

The bureau says that if Sinlaku stays on its current course, it will brush past Taiwan's eastern coast and head north toward Japan.
