Swiss President to arrive on Monday

Switzerland President Micheline Calmy-Rey to pay 4-day visit to India from Monday to strengthen bilateral relations.

NEW DELHI: Switzerland President Micheline Calmy-Rey will pay a four-day state visit to India commencing Monday to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Calmy-Rey will hold talks with President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and other top political leaders.

An Indo-Swiss joint statement is expected to be released after the meeting with the Prime Minister.

Calmy-Rey will also travel to Hyderabad where she will visit a micro-finance project.

Switzerland has long-standing friendly relations with India and it was the first country to have signed a friendship treaty in 1948.

A series of events and projects have been planned for next year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the treaty.
