Swachh Bharat Mission: Delhi leads in building public toilets

Delhi has taken a lead in building the highest number of public toilets in urban areas under Swachh Bharat Mission, followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

NEW DELHI: The capital has taken a lead in building the highest number of community and public toilets in urban areas under Swachh Bharat Mission, followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

Gujarat has topped in the individual household category , according to a release issued by urban development ministry.

A ministry official said Delhi has completed construction of 5,776 community and public toilet seats since the mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October. Chhattisgarh has built 3,570 toilets and Maharashtra constructed 2,520.

Chandigarh has come third and Karnataka recorded the fourth highest number of toilets. These five states and Union Territories accounted for 86% of the total number of public toilets constructed so far.
