PUNE: Swabhimani Shetkari Sangathana ( SSS) led by member of parliament Raju Shetty has withdrawn the agitation over cane price without getting any assurance about cane price either from the government or the sugar factories.

The agitation had turned violent during last two days in south Maharashtra as the SSS workers attacked state transport buses and the vehicles carrying milk to Mumbai.

Hamidwada Sugar Co-operative from Kolhapur, after having a discussion with Shetty, had announced first advance of Rs 2650/tonne to be paid in two installments. Today, Shetty announced withdrawal of his agitation till December end demanding that all the sugar mills should pay first advance of Rs 2650/tonne. He warned that the agitation would be launched again if the mills do not pay first advance as demanded by him.
