Adhikari was holding a meeting at his residence with 20 MLAs, BJP MPs and several BJP leaders. BJP leaders claimed that there was no clear reason why police cordoned off Adhikari's house.
A huge contingent of Bidhanagar Police led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) cordoned off Suvendu’s house while he was holding a meeting with his party MLAs this afternoon.
“We were prevented by police as we came out of my house where I was holding a meeting. Police has no right to prevent us from going to Kolkata. Bidhannagar Police has no role and this is not the jurisdiction of Kolkata Municipal polls. My residence is in Bidhanagar Municipality area and the police have no right to stop us,” Adhikari said.
Earlier Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had tweeted on the issue, “Leader of Opposition has communicated “In Salt Lake my residence was totally blocked by Bidhannagar police where 20 BJP MLAs including some state leaders stayed. regards Suvendu Adhikari Lop WBLA”. He also mentioned that a delegation of BJP MLAs will meet him today on the issue.
Meanwhile, the BJP delegation led by BJP leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday also demanded cancellation of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) polls and repolling of all 144 wards in KMC. The delegation met Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and the State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday evening and placed their demands.
“BJP delegation led by LOP Suvendu Adhikari has urged the Governor to take steps to declare polls KMC null and void in view of rampant violence, rigging and Kolkata Police acting for ruling party. A thorough probe was sought in the locking of opposition MLAs in the hostel,” Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted after the meeting.
“We have demanded cancellation of KMC polls as only 20 percent of the genuine voters could cast their votes today. We have urged the Governor and we will meet State Election Commission Sourav Das and place similar demands,” Adhikari said.
Adhikari also claimed that Trinamool Congress has resorted to complete rigging mechanism in the KMC polls. “Most of the CCTVs have not worked during the polling. We will tell the State Election Commissioner about the issues. We will produce all documents and footages in court when the KMC poll case will go for hearing on December 23,” he said.
