Suvendu Adhikari slams 'Azadi' slogans at JU, says time to end threat culture

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday said it is time to end the "threat culture" at Jadavpur University and vowed to restore nationalism inside and outside the campus.

Adhikari slammed those raising 'Azadi' slogans and writing 'Red Salute Kishanji' on the walls of Jadavpur University (JU). "It pains me when 'Azadi' slogans are raised on the streets of the city. What is this Azadi for? The country became independent long ago." The CM has organised a 'Vande Mataram' singing ceremony in Jadavpur area, in front of JU, and will sing the national song during the programme titled "Vande Mataram in 10,000 voices".

"From the soil of West Bengal, Khudiram Bose gave 'Azadi' to India. On the soil of West Bengal, Matangini Hazra - with the tricolour in one hand and taking British bullets - gave us our independence. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rishi Aurobindo, Rashtraguru Surendranath Banerjee, Binoy, Badal, Dinesh, Masterda Surya Sen and the countless sacrifices of our freedom fighters - that is how we gained independence. Whose Azadi do you want?" Adhikari questioned while addressing the gathering from Jadavpur, just opposite the Jadavpur University.
