Suvendu Adhikari says BJP will bring Tatas back to Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said the BJP would bring the Tata Group back to the state.

"We will bring back Tatas in Bengal," Adhikari said at a press conference in Kolkata.

Adhikari also took a swipe at previous governments on the issue of industrial investment. "We don't want to indulge in lies, organise photo sessions like previous govt did to attract industries," he said.

On land acquisition, Adhikari said the government was in the process of formulating a policy but made it clear that industrialisation would not be pursued through coercive means.

"The government is working on its land acquisition policy. We are against forcible land acquisition, like what happened in Singur and Nandigram during the erstwhile Left Front regime. At the same time, we are also against the TMC's policy of doing nothing while only holding photo sessions and spreading lies about bringing industries," he said.

According to Adhikari, a BJP government would seek to strike a balance between attracting investments and safeguarding the interests of landowners through consensus-based development.

The issue remains politically significant in West Bengal, where the Tata Motors Nano plant's exit from Singur after protests over land acquisition became a turning point in the state's politics, helping propel Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress to power in 2011 after 34 years of Left Front rule.
