Suvendu Adhikari blames Mamata for deletion of 27 lakh names in Bengal SIR

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday slammed former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, claiming she was responsible for the deletion of 27 lakh names in Bengal’s SIR, and not the BJP or the Election Commission of India (ECI), as she had moved the Supreme Court and the 27 lakh names were deleted by judicial officers appointed by the Supreme Court.

Adhikari attacked Banerjee for raising “azadi slogans” at her public rally in Sreerampore and claimed, "Former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was responsible for deletion of 27 lakh names in Bengal SIR, not the BJP or the Election Commission."

Adhikari also attacked Mamata Banerjee, alleging that her party and the CPI-M were "now speaking in one voice" despite their long history of political rivalry, and that the TMC came to power by ousting the CPI-M.

CPI-M would have come to power inKerala if SIR was not conducted, Adhikari claimed, adding that the “tukde tukde gang” and Congress are coming together and will protest. “Mamata Banerjee has made a phone calls and written letter to CPI-M’s M A Baby and I think Rahul Gandhi, Banerjee should go to Kerala as well to protest against SIR.”

“The decision regarding SIR was not taken unilaterally by the Chief Election Commissioner. The joint statement issued by the Chief Election Commissioner and the other Election Commissioners makes this clear,” CM said, adding that “the decision regarding SIR was taken unanimously.”

Adhikari lashed out at the opposition over its criticism of the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, claiming that the process was being conducted transparently.

Slamming the Trinamool Congress, Adhikari said, All India Trinamool Congress—whose current name is now “Mamata AITC”—has also changed its symbol and its symbol has vanished.

“There were 150 people attending Mamata Banerjee’s rally yesterday and provided 170 police personnel and 200 media persons.”

Adhikari pointed out incidents of political violence associated with the Left Front's tenure, from Netai and Saibari to Nandigram, and reminded that the erstwhile AITC (Mamata AITC) came to power protesting against the CPI-M.
