CHANDIGARH: The central government today asked the plastic industry to focus on sustainable growth to stay competitive.

"Focus on sustainable growth in order to be competitive in the international market," said Surjit K Chaudhary, Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, here.

He was addressing a national conference on 'Potential of plastic industry' organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FICCI).

"The Indian plastics industry in coming decades has to promote sustainable development by investing in technologies that protect environment and stimulates growth while balancing economic needs and financial constraints," he said.

He suggested that the industry must invest more in research and development and set targets to adopt efficient technologies.
