PORT BLAIR: Union Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has given an assurance that a special financial package of Rs 3000 crore will be given to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The assurance was given to the PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma when he met Shinde in New Delhi on June 4, he said.

Sharma had submitted a 26-point charter of demands including creation of employment opportunities, welfare of farmers, increase of the amount of compensation to the Tsunami victims and a special financial package of Rs 3000 crore for the union territory.

Earlier last month, Sharma had taken up all these issues with the AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
