In a shocking announcement, former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi revealed his inability to contribute to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024 due to ongoing battle with cancer over the past six months.

In a statement posted on X, a social media platform, the BJP leader expressed, "I have been battling cancer for the last 6 months. Now I feel that the time has come to tell people. I will not be able to do anything in the Lok Sabha elections. I have told everything to the PM. Always grateful and always dedicated to the country, Bihar and the party."

Modi's announcement comes amidst speculations regarding his involvement in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Bihar. The elections for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar are scheduled to be held in seven phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1.

The 72-year-old served as Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister twice, first from 2005 to 2013 and then from 2017 to 2020.

Modi holds significance as the third prominent figure to rise from the 1974-75 JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) Movement. With roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, he entered politics in the 1980s.
