Surrendered militants shot dead in Manipur safe house

Police said VC Ningombam Nabachandra and Leisangthem Sanjit Singh were shot dead inside a safe house near state capital Imphal at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.

GUWAHATI: A top militant leader and his close aide who had surendered in 2014 were found dead in a highly secured compound of the 7th Manipur Rifles complex in Manipur.

They were believed to have been shot dead in their 'safe house' inside the security forces compound.

Police sources said former Chairman of banned militant group PREPAK - VC Ningombam Nabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba and Leisangthem Sanjit Singh alias Chingkhei were shot dead inside the safe house in Khabeisoi near state capital Imphal at around 8.30 pm on Tuesday.

A probe has been ordered by the state home department into the killings.
