Suresh Kalmadi, Renuka Chaudhary, Jaya Prada links to Hasan Ali: Tapuriah
Kolkata-based businessman Kashinath Tapuriah, associate and co-accused in the Hasan Ali multi-crore money laundering case, has in a series of statements made to ED named several politicians.

NEW DELHI: Kolkata-based businessman Kashinath Tapuriah, associate and co-accused in the Hasan Ali multi-crore money laundering case, has in a series of statements made to Enforcement Directorate named several politicians the alleged hawala operator was close to.
In an interview to news channel CNN-IBN, Tapuriah also revealed Ali's political connections.
The politicians Tapuriah is believed to have named include arrested Commonwealth Games chief organizer Suresh Kalmadi, former minister Renuka Chaudhary, expelled Samajwadi MP Jaya Prada, Congress MP Subbirami Reddy, ex-MP A S Chaudhary and the late Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, who was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Tapuriah's statements about his partner's political connections were first reported in TOI in its edition dated May 13. His statements are understood to have been recorded in keeping with the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Ali's partner named Renuka Chaudhary when asked about Mumbai hawala operator Abbas Naqvi, also a builder, from whom Ali had taken a diamond valued at Rs 1.20 crore. Ali allegedly wanted to give the diamond to Chaudhary. Ali, according to Tapuriah, never paid for the diamond and Naqvi is suspected to have handled some of the cash transactions.
The Kolkata businessman said he knew Naqvi as a building contractor. He further said he met Naqvi in New Delhi at the residence of a Sufi guru.
Ali allegedly told Tapuriah that Subbirami Reddy was a close friend. Tapuriah said he was introduced to Chaudhary by Delhi Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. Ali had a good rapport with former actor-turned-MP Jaya Prada, who Tapuriah claims to have seen in the company of the Pune stud farm owner at a hotel in 1996.
Tapuriah's statements are part of a 1,000-plus-page chargesheet filed by ED in a special court. He told investigators that when the problems related to the Income Tax department and the ED began. Ali assured him that he had a line to a senior Congress leader in Delhi who would help him.
He also spoke about Ali's link's with a Congress leader from AP currently associated in an airport project in Mumbai or New Delhi.
