Surat’s diamond trader, social worker Mahesh Savani joins AAP

In a significant development, prominent diamond trader and social worker from Surat, Mahesh Savani has joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat on Sunday.

Savani is one of the several prominent faces who have joined the AAP in Gujarat. Recently, a popular news anchor of a vernacular news channel had joined the party.

Savani joining the party assumes significance due to the changing political dynamics in Surat, where AAP has wiped out the opposition Congress in the recently-held municipal corporation elections and emerged as the opposition with 27 corporations in its debut election. The party’s success is largely being attributed to the disenchantment of the Patidar community with the BJP and Congress in the diamond city.
