MUMBAI: Suraj Parmar, president of the Thane unit of builders body Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI), committed suicide on Wednesday.

The builder shot himself at a construction site office in Thane, police confirmed, but did not comment on the possible reasons for the act.

"He shot himself and has left a 15-16 page note, which our officers are going through. We can't comment on specifics as yet," Thane police commissioner Param Bir Singh told ET.

Earlier this year, Parmar was in the news for criticising Thane's civic body for unnecessarily delaying certain approvals for finished projects.

Parmar was chairman of the Cosmos Group, a property development firm involved in construction of residential and commercial property.
